The Institute of Foreign Affairs in partnership with the Ministry of Peace organized a Research project proposal validation workshop on Nonviolent and Violent conflict dataset (NaVCoD) on July 20, 2024.

The workshop basically focused on establishing a comprehensive nonviolent and violent conflict dataset in Ethiopia which includes all necessary units of observations and observable characteristics.

During his opening speech, H.E Jafar Bedru, Executive Director of IFA, emphasized the establishment of the dataset’s importance as a key tool for understanding the nature, dynamics, actors, and consequences of conflicts in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa. From the data set researchers, policy makers and policy analysts could easily access reliable data that are crucial for the research output. From the dataset, IFA allows other research institutions to access it to facilitate collaboration and enhance research efforts globally. By sharing and utilizing datasets from various sources, researchers can address gaps, analyze trends, and conduct situational assessments related to nonviolent and violent conflicts. The establishment of a complete IFA nonviolent and violent dataset (NaVCoD) will bring about numerous advantages.

On the validation program, Deputy Minister of Peace H.E. Cheru Geta,IFA  scholars and MoP senior officials and experts  participated.
